Gated/Secured Communities

The popularity of living in gated, or secured, communities has been rising in recent years for many families for two primary reasons:  security and ammenities.  A typical gated community will have walking trails, tennis courts, club houses, social groups, and many will have swimming pools and even golf courses.  While not all "gated/secured" communities have a "guard gate", all have limited access and active on-site security. The Greater Williamsburg Area has several such nighborhoods from which to choose.

Colonial Heritage -- This age restricted, gated community is located on Richmond Road (Rt. 60) in the James City County Lightfoot area.  It offers a full list of amenities plus and 18 hole golf course.

Ford's Colony -- This gated community is located on Longhill Road just East of Centerville Rd.  It offers a full list of amenities plus three 18-hole golf courses.

Governor's Land -- Governor's Land, situated at the confluence of the James and Chickahominy Rivers, is not a gated community per se, but does have a single road access with active 24 /7 security  It offers all of the amenities, an 18 hole golf course and a grand view of magnificent sunsets.

Kingsmill on the James -- Also situated on the James River in Eastern James City County, this gated community has all of the amenities, three 18 hole and one 9 hole golf courses, and is home to the Michalob Ultra Light LPGA golf championship each year.

Stonehouse -- Like Governor's Land, Stonehouse is not gated per se but does have limited access with 24/7 security.  This community lies in the Western section of James City County, offers many of the amenities of other gated/secured communities and is home to the Traditions Golf Course at Stonehouse.
